Blood

A fellow expat told me so many bad things happened in mid May to people she knew. Someone broke a bone, someone's forehead was grazed by a bullet, another lost their moto and another was in hospital with what may be be a mutant form of Dengue fever. Just before this conversation I was talking with a Khmer Christian friend about how it seemed like there were lots of bad traffic accidents in mid may. She said maybe its because this is a blood year so we know Satan is more active.
As I mentioned on our main blog Khmer New Year (mid April) is the time when Cambodians welcome the angel for the new year. Last year the angel was said to eat hamburgers and drink wine, so I heard. This year she is said to eat blood.
I'm not sure if she was joking or if she really connected the animism beliefs of Cambodians to her Christian beliefs.
