Relaxing holiday brunch by the lake

The last few mornings I've been waking up early and going outside to explore the new water level. Too exciting! But today we slept in and ate a late breakfast out the front of our house. It was nice watching the north wind (which is a sign of the end of rainy season so i'm told) blow across the water and through the trees. It reminded Soeun of when he was a teenager. He worked in Koh Kong near the sea (Gulf of Thai), they sent him to buy fresh water. He was bringing the water back along the river, but ended up stuck on a sandbar for a few hours while he waited for the tide to come up. Apparently there are fish that only live in areas where between the sea and the river, not fresh water fish and not salty water fish.
He also told me the tree in front of our place reminds him of when he lived with his grandparents (until he was 7). The leaves of this "songkai" tree are used for making cigarettes. He used to collect and dry them for his grandpa to roll tobacco in.
Most people are still away, but a few people are here. We just saw someone who has been to the outside, to the market. She said the road out there is even more flooded than yesterday, even though it didn't rain last night. Its coming from somewhere else. I might venture out to the market today. Our water went down a little late last night, but this morning its back up, maybe even slightly higher than yesterday.
